Veterans Day: Childhood Promises I Kept to Myself | Thu Nov 11, 2021

Veterans Day is a time of year that reminds me how long I’ve been self-sufficient — that is paying my own bills in so many words. On this Veterans Day, I celebrate keeping a childhood promise to myself. Not in 23 years of independence have I purchased a cereal that needed to have sugar added.

Damn that feels good. In the same vein, I’ve bought an ice cream cone whenever I want.

Also, I don’t have a bedtime. Considering my age and relative lifestyle habits, this is a weird flex. But still.

I make the rules now. I make decisions on the rules I’m going to follow. Yeah. Yeah, I’m a full grown adult. I run this.

Happy Veterans to you and everyone! Celebrate something! High-five, in-person or digitally, anyone you know who deployed and returned home! Anyone who served! Anyone who tried to serve!
